I am Felipe Ferraz, a veterinary surgeon in the capital of Brazil, and today I would like to share the case of Giorgio, a 13 year old Labrador of 47 kg who came to my practice with a worrying medical history. His guardian brought him in on suspicion of laryngeal paralysis, which was confirmed by clear clinical signs and direct laryngoscopy.

Diagnosis and Challenges
Giorgio presented severe stridor with any level of physical activity, which made his daily life very complicated. In addition, his obesity further aggravated his respiratory symptoms, putting his general health and quality of life at risk.

Surgical Procedure
We decided to perform a palatoplasty to lengthen the palate and improve respiratory function.
In addition, we implanted an ABTVet laryngeal stent, model VST14-40, with the aim of stabilising the airway and providing a better long-term quality of life.

Results and Recovery
Following surgery, Giorgio has shown signs of significant improvement. Although he is still recovering, the stent placement has significantly reduced his breathing problems, and his life expectancy is expected to improve as a result of the intervention.
